Végre megérkezett a pop koronázatlan királynőjének, Dua Lipának harmadik nagylemeze, a Radical Optimism, amely 11 dalból áll. Az énekesnő egyedüllétét kiemelő album első felvétele beszédesen az „End Of An Era” (azaz: egy éra vége) címet viseli és olyan slágerek gyűjteménye, mint a „Houdini”, a „Training Season” és az „Illusion”. Dua „pszichedelikus popként” írja le új lemezét, megjegyezve róla, hogy „olyan kiállások és különféle hangzások keveréke ez, amit ha csukott szemmel hallgatsz, akkor egy kész, vizuális világ tárul eléd”.
„Az albumot a szingliségem alatt írtam” – mondta el Dua. „Mindig valami vicces történettel érkeztem a stúdióba, és mindegyik más-más dalt inspirált. Van egy lazaság és őszinteség, ami korábban nem volt meg bennem.”
Az album elkészítésekor a világsztár olyan kivételes művészekkel dolgozott együtt, mint Caroline Ailin (Dua Lipa: New Rules), Danny L. Harle (Caroline Polachek, Charli XCX), Tobias Jesso Jr. (Adele) és Kevin Parker, akit művésznevén Tame Impalaként ismerhet a nagyvilág.
Dua hozzátette: „Mindenki háttere és munkamódszerei jól összeálltak barátként és zeneileg is.” Így folytatta: „Nagyon nyitottak voltunk egymással, és úgy éreztem abban a szobában, hogy sebezhető lehetek, és szabadon beszélhetek a tapasztalataimról. Ennek a zeneisége olyan gazdagnak és izgalmasnak hatott, és szerettem volna ebben teljesen elmerülni és részese lenni.”
A Dua önfelfedezése által ihletett Radical Optimism egy olyan anyag, amelyben értelmet nyer a tiszta öröm és boldogság megélése azokban a helyzetekben is, amelyeket korábban lehetetlennek tűnt elfogadnunk.
A 11 szám közül egy igazán mély jelentésű, a „These Walls” kapott fókuszt a Spotifyon, amelyről elárulta az énekesnő a Zane Lowe-nak adott, nemrég közzétett interjújában, hogy:
„Van ez a közhely, hogy "ó, ha ezek a falak beszélni tudnának, tudod, mit mondanának". Szerintem érezhető az az energia, amikor besétálsz egy szobába és két ember veszekedett, vagy ideges.”
„Azt gondolom, hogy elkerülhetetlen az a beszélgetés, amit senki sem akar, de meg kell tenni, valakinek ki kell szállnia, és bármennyire is fájdalmas, ez általában megfelelő okok miatt történik, mert rólad van szó, és a megérzésed mindig megmondja, hogy valami jó vagy nem…”
