Az Obituary 40 éves múltjában többször járt már nálunk, legutóbb tavaly a Sepultura vendégeként léptek színpadra, hogy velőt rázó dalaikkal megmozgassák a magyar közönséget. Július 30-án azonban ismét visszatérnek, hogy a Dürer Kert nagytermében adjanak felejthetetlen koncertet.
Az Obituary már 1984-ben füstbombákkal várta a közönséget a koncertjén
Az Obituary 1984-ben alakult Executioner néven. A helyi tampai bandák, mint a Nasty Savage és a Savatage, valamint a korai Metallica és Slayer hatására a Tardy fivérek a garázsukban zenekart alapítottak, majd korán színpadra is léptek. Bár a tagok többsége még fiatalkorú volt, a koncerteken már ekkor is érett előadással, dobemelvényekkel, füstbombákkal várták a közönséget.
A zenekar azóta sem adott lejjebb az élő fellépések hangulatából
Akik követik a munkásságukat tudhatják, hogy soha nem kell félgőzre és visszafogottságra számítani egy Obituary műsor közben. Sosem hajszolták az elismeréseket vagy a közösségi média népszerűségét, és sosem törődtek a trendekkel.
11 stúdióalbumon és számtalan koncerten vannak túl, mégis
megmaradtak a gyökereiknél: az emberileg elképzelhető legdurvább zenék egyikét játsszák és ezzel világszerte hűséges rajongótábort építettek.
A 2017-ben kiadott Obituary self-titled lemezük akkor jelent meg mikor a death metal épp reneszánszát élte és ennek köszönhetően a régi rajongók mellett újak is felfedezték, milyen erő lakik a zenekarban. Ennek bizonyítéka volt például a Slayerrel közös európai turné is.
A zenekar 2023-ban újabb lemezt jelentetett meg, a A Dying of Everything mindent hoz, amit az Obituarytól elvárhatunk: thrash („Barely Alive”), groove („The Wrong Time”, „My Will to Live”) és a mindent lehengerlő hangulat is ott van a dalokban.
A zenekar kötődése Magyarországhoz nemcsak a korábban itt megtartott koncertek miatt erős, hanem a Gróf Balázs által nekik gyártott videoklipek is segítik, hogy a banda biztosan jó szájízzel, erős műsorral érkezzen Budapestre.
A hazai közönség az Obituary által teremtett atmoszférából már többször részesült, de a legutolsó lemez dalai július 30-án kapnak igazán teret, hiszen ezúttal egy headliner bulival vár mindenkit a Dürer Kertben a zenekar.
